amo puestas del sol nicaraguan

06.16.06
who needs television when you have nature putting on a show for free?

when it got a bit darker, there was a lightening storm right between the yellow and red clouds.

tyson calls these "bible scripture sunsets."

cervezas y la playa

06.16.06
after our "hike," ginger, tyson, oliver and i went to town to hang out.
we did the internet cafe thing (oliver's other addiction) and some souvenir shopping.

and then we decided to drink some beers on the beach and watch the sunset.

what more could you ask for?

hasta la torre

06.16.06
after our delicious brunch, we decided to take a hike up to this radio tower over looking san juan del sur.
chris told us to suit up and bring lots of water
because he wasn't sure how far he could drive the car up the hill to the tower.

after preparing ourselves for a hike in the heat, we ended up driving all the way up.
oliver remarked: "gee, chris, i'm glad you told us to wear long pants, the a/c was pretty cold in the car."

there were a couple maintenance people living up there next to the tower.

ginger está en la cocina

06.16.06
ginger is an amazing cook!!!
she whipped up in less than an hour:
guacamole, mango salsa, fresh fried tortilla chips, rice and beans, potatoes with caramelized onions
and for dessert... banana pudding with mangos and pineapple chunks.

iron chef nicaragua.

DROOL.

unforunately, rob couldn't join us because he was sick as a dog in bed with food poisoning.
but we saved him a plate for when he got better.

oliver needs his caffeine fix.

btw, ginger has her own chocolate company: couture chocolates. check it out.

fuimos al mercado

06.16.06
we woke up that morning and decided that ginger
being the fabulous pastry chef with actual cooking school experience
would cook us brunch.

so we headed to the market and purchased several items for our meal.

food in nicaragua is incredibly cheap. a pineapple and some bananas was 6 cordobas (~$0.37 US!!).
when you live in a poor country, food has to be affordable or else no one could live there.

el cielo es "chocho"

06.15.06
the sunsets in nicaragua cannot be captured on film.
there is no lens wide enough to truly convey the humbling experience
of looking upward to this.

and just when i thought i snapped the perfect picture,
the sky would change again, so subtly. richer, clearer, louder.

these were taken a minute apart.

las cosas encontraron en la arena

06.15.06
we did stop at the small beach in ostional. we hung out there for just a bit.
the boys played football while ginger and i explored the beach.

when crabs burrow in their underground holes,
they fling up sand, making beautiful patterns.
